realised within the project administration office. Information on
cultural heritage values has been provided to 50 school children (3

purchased information booklets and posters mainly aimed at childrens’
education. Thirty local people (1.15) were trained in organising
awareness campaigns. Fifty school children were selected and have

the protectorate) were held:

were established and equipped. The average number of patients served was
42 per month. A temporary operational license was obtained from the
Ministry of Health. The request to obtain a permanent operational
license has been submitted to Ministry of Health.
The patients’ database recorded 307 patients (53% more than planned)
Mobile Veterinary unit

provided the planned veterinary services (regular check-ups and
provision of medicines whenever deemed needed), to the husbandry
communities in St. Katherine Protectorate. The area in which services
were provided covers the city of St. Katherine and it’s the Wadies in

Water Quality Unit
The operation of the planned water
desalination and disinfection unit has been established near Al-Zayitona
well. The purification station uses 5 techniques for water desalination
and disinfection;
o Sedimentation bath with alum
o Sand filter
o Ultraviolet based desalination
o Chlorination
o Ozone production.
Those techniques are considered sufficient for water desalination and
disinfection.
However, the unit's operation met problems. The analysis of the produced
water, done by the Directorate of Health in El Tur, showed that its
quality is apparently insufficient. A request for legal operation of the
unit has been sent to the Ministry of Health but to date no reply has
been received by the project management. The water purification
component has been suspended until obtaining technique licence from
Ministry of Health. In general, The project was not able to implement
the planned activities.

established within the project 127 administration office. 103 local
Bedouin women attended 6 training courses in mushroom cultivation.
Thirteen women have started a mushroom cultivation plots. The mushrooms
produced are delivered to the project and the latter arranges their
sales on behalf of the women. Further training courses was held in July
